Found at Bermondsey Market in London, this early 20th-century English silver-plated sugar bowl is stamped MADE IN ENGLAND and EP.
Deeply fluted with scrolling handles, ornate feet and a beautifully worked lid, it has the generous proportions and presence of a small piece of sculpture.
Once made for the ritual of the table, it returns there now filled with candlelight. Lifting the lid to light it—and replacing it when the evening is done—becomes a ritual of its own.
